Maker Faire 2022. Saturday 2nd of July. 17:30 a 19:00
IAAC. Pujades 102: Speaker’s corner
During the last years, we have experienced an evolution of many productive spaces, such as makerspaces, fab labs, or coworking spaces, towards more integrated models with their urban environment, fostering collaboration opportunities with other stakeholders in the territory. Even though in Barcelona there are many spaces that use digital manufacturing tools and new technology to innovate towards new productive models, some of them have also become hubs for social innovation with real impact in people’s lives.
We are experiencing an effervescent momentum for this type of initiative, and we would like to show the diversity of productive hubs that are currently working in Barcelona. From consolidated publicly managed spaces such as the xarxa d’ateneus de fabricació, that collaborate closely with other public institutions such as schools and educational centres; to projects such as duduá, fostering the DIY approach and disseminating an innovative vision on craftwork and artisan techniques to public discussion and spaces; coworking spaces like Akasha Hub, that multiply and foster local initiatives such as the Hort del Clot; or concepts such as the Fab City Hub, an evolution of the Fab Lab that promotes interaction and collaboration around productive activities with other civil society initiatives and local actores.
The productive hub models that will be shown and discussed in this panel discussion are but a small sample of this transformation of creative and innovation spaces that we are experiencing in many cities around the world. Following this panel discussion, other activities by Fab City Barcelona will continue mapping this type of initiatives in the city.
